Grumman’ing

By Jon Roemer On 27 Apr ’11 · Leave a Comment

Earlier in the month I posted, Shrubbery, about a trip to photograph a former Grumman factory mid-way out on Long Island. The images are to document the complex for a real estate capital intermediary company (I leave that to others to parse.) As mentioned in Shrubbery, it’s an interesting group of [...]

Canon E1 Plugin v1.2

By Jon Roemer On 9 Apr ’11 · 2 Comments

Canon E1 plugin for Final Cut Pro is coming (timed to NAB.) It will not require the memory card’s root structure to be present. This should open the door to saving and organizing clips in something like Aperture prior to working with them in FCP.

Release date via Canon [...]

Zacuto Stuff

By Jon Roemer On 7 Apr ’11 · Leave a Comment

In my April Fools post I wrote that Zacuto USA was buying Really Right Stuff, becoming a new company called Zacuto Stuff. That, of course, is not true but for many making the transition from shooting stills to shooting HDSLR video it is a goal of sorts. Not to [...]

Shrubbery

By Jon Roemer On 5 Apr ’11 · Leave a Comment

On location last week in the middle of Long Island to photograph a former Grumman factory which is now an office complex. A sprawling site situated on almost 100 acres, it once produced radar, intercom, and weapons-testing equipment for the Army. There are three main buildings running the gamut from somewhat re-habbed to fully renovated.

Pre-NAB 2011: Canon announced a firmware upgrade for the 1Ds Mark III today unlocking a hidden HDSLR video capture feature. Firmware v1.3 enables HDSLR video shooting in 1080P at frame rates of 25P and 24P, and in 720P at frame rates of up to 60P and 50P.

The firmware utilizes a new algorithm [...]

Mmm, Mmm, Good

By Jon Roemer On 24 Mar ’11 · 1 Comment

No it’s not Campbell Soup, it’s Campbell Hall, photographed last fall for Fordham University. Designed by Sasaki Associates, the complex of three buildings will accommodate 460 students and will be Fordham’s first set of LEED-certified Gold buildings.

I photographed Campbell Hall at sunrise and this beautiful light lasted… maybe two minutes.

Canon’s E1 Plugin for FCP – Finding the Metadata

By Jon Roemer On 22 Mar ’11 · 1 Comment

This past fall Canon updated the EOS Movie Plugin-E1 to v1.1. Along with speeding up the transcoding of Canon HDSLR movie files into Final Cut Pro it added camera metadata as a feature. The metadata can be very useful. Unlike a still photo, there is no other way to view it (lens, ISO, [...]
