Putting the sRGB Back in WordPress

By Jon Roemer On 4 Apr ’11 · 2 Comments

WordPress v3 works well and has attempted to think through everything. When it comes to images though a bit more is needed. WordPress automatically creates duplicate images at different sizes whenever you upload an image for a blog post. The idea behind this is great, it saves you the trouble of manually creating multiple sizes for [...]

Canon’s E1 Plugin for FCP – Finding the Metadata

By Jon Roemer On 22 Mar ’11 · 1 Comment

This past fall Canon updated the EOS Movie Plugin-E1 to v1.1. Along with speeding up the transcoding of Canon HDSLR movie files into Final Cut Pro it added camera metadata as a feature. The metadata can be very useful. Unlike a still photo, there is no other way to view it (lens, ISO, [...]

Blog and Mobile Updates

By Jon Roemer On 6 Feb ’11 · Leave a Comment

I have implemented some changes to the blog and also received some great changes to my web platform.

The blog has been updated from a free WordPress theme, Oulipo, to a purchased platform via PageLines. For now it has a similar look and feel – images are larger, text is easier [...]

Photoshop CS5 – The Good and the Big Brother

By Jon Roemer On 3 Dec ’10 · Leave a Comment

Adobe had a deal, upgrade to CS5 by November 30th via their online store and get $50 off (25%.) I took the bait and just before midnight on Tuesday downloaded my copy.

I had been in no rush to upgrade from CS4 to CS5. On the one hand Adobe had dropped the ball with the [...]

Mac OS 10.6.5 + Aperture 3.1 = Big Speed Jump

By Jon Roemer On 10 Nov ’10 · Leave a Comment

Apple released the 10.6.5 update today. I needed to edit a job and export a web gallery both of which I did after updating.

The update lists one improvement as, “address[ing] performance of some image-processing operations in iPhoto and Aperture.” That may be an understatement… the web gallery is currently churning out at [...]

Aperture 3.1

By Jon Roemer On 21 Oct ’10 · Leave a Comment

Apple released a big update to Aperture yesterday on the heals of their iLife ’11, Lion, and MacBook Air announcements. The update promises a host of bug fixes, speed improvements, and compatibility upgrades for the new iLife.

I updated last night. It does require that you update your database. So, I would recommend a [...]

Statues Made of Matchsticks

By Jon Roemer On 28 Jun ’10 · Leave a Comment

I received my iPhone 4 last Wednesday, one of the group to get them a day early from Apple.

Initial thoughts:

Overall, it is speedy but no hugely speedy over the iPhone 3Gs. I’d rate it at about 25% faster and that seems to be confirmed by a recent Ars Technica review. The [...]
