Pileated Punk
For the past few weeks woodchips, sizable ones, have been appearing daily on our patio. They’re there every morning as I make my way to the studio, no signs of their origin.
Today, I found the culprit.
About 18″ in length, the Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in North America. This one looks to be a full grown adult male.

Hi Jon,
if this guy carries on with his work it looks like you will have more than wood chips falling onto your yard.
Very fine bird but looking very thin and hungry.
thanks
Mark
I know… I have some hard hats left over from assignments on constructions sites. I may have to take to wearing them in the yard.
